On Quinta da Castelhana we welcome guests to our small B&B on a natural fruit farm in central Portugal. Weekends here are all about slowing down, enjoying good food and reconnecting with nature.
We grow our own strawberries and, in the coming years, cherries as well. In season you can taste them fresh at breakfast, straight from the garden, and experience the simple pleasure of life on a working farm.
We also have our own olive trees and produce a small amount of our own olive oil, as well as honey from our beehives. When available, you can taste our honey and other bee-based products such as creams, soaps and candles, all made in small batches here on the quinta.
One of the favourite spots for our guests is the outdoor bathroom area, which also includes a simple outdoor kitchen. Here you have the option to cook for yourself, enjoy a quiet meal under the sky and feel truly at home on the farm.
Experience our open-air bathroom with sweeping countryside views. Take a hot shower, soak in the tub or brush your teeth under the open sky, surrounded by quiet hills and fresh air. It’s often our guests’ favourite spot on the quinta.
Hello, we are Natascha and Tim. Originally from the Netherlands, we moved to central Portugal in 2003 and have been slowly shaping Quinta da Castelhana into the place it is today.
We live here surrounded by fruit trees, vegetable gardens and a small flock of chickens, and we love sharing this simple, natural way of life with our guests. Natascha is at her happiest in the kitchen and garden, while Tim enjoys cooking, baking sourdough and making sure everyone feels at home.
Our wish is that you leave Quinta da Castelhana feeling rested, inspired and a little more connected to nature. We look forward to welcoming you for a weekend – or a little longer – on our fruit farm.
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. For most people, it does not cause any health issues. However, individuals with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity may experience symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and gas when consuming gluten.
Protein intake varies based on individual needs, such as age, sex, weight, and activity level. Are whole grains important?: Whole grains are a significant source of fiber and contain essential vitamins and minerals. They contribute to gut health and overall nutrition. When choosing products, look for the word “whole” in the ingredients list or check for the whole-grain stamp.
Eating a well balanced breakfast is crucial for adding key nutrients to your diet and regulating appetite.
Examples of healthy oils to cook with are coconut oil, ghee, olive oil, cocoa butter and avocado oil.
The cholesterol in eggs does not necessarily increase blood cholesterol levels. Eggs are a good source of protein and other nutrients.
While some fasting regimes suggest skipping breakfast, consuming a protein-rich breakfast within an hour or two of waking up can be beneficial for metabolic and appetite regulation.
