Our Fruit farm near Serra da Estrela

"Seasonal fruit, natural farming and authentic countryside experiences in central Portugal"

A Family‑Run Fruit Farm

Quinta da Castelhana is a small, natural fruit farm where we grow mainly strawberries and, in the coming years, cherries. We work with the seasons and keep things as simple and low-impact as we can.

Besides fruit, we also have our own olive trees and a few beehives. The olives are pressed into a small amount of olive oil for our own use and for guests to taste. From the hives we harvest honey and beeswax, which we use to make a limited range of products such as creams, soaps and candles. These are made in small batches here on the quinta and reflect our wish to live closer to nature and use what the land offers us.

Guests can walk through the orchards and berry rows, see how we grow our fruit naturally and enjoy the peaceful countryside around the farm.
Depending on the season, there will be different fruits to taste – from spring strawberries and berries to summer figs, grapes and, in future, cherries straight from the trees.

Seasonal Fruits We Grow

Strawberries – The heart of our farm. We focus mainly on naturally grown, unsprayed strawberries, picked fully ripe for the best flavour. Guests can enjoy them fresh in season, straight from the garden or at breakfast.

Raspberries – Sweet raspberries that we serve fresh when in season and use in our homemade jams and desserts.

Blueberries – Juicy blueberries from our bushes, perfect for breakfast bowls, cakes and jams.

Grapes – Table grapes that are delicious eaten fresh and sometimes used in simple juices and desserts.

Cherries – From 2027 our cherry trees will begin to produce, and guests will be able to taste cherries picked directly from our own trees.

Apples, Pears and Figs – Traditional varieties that we enjoy fresh and turn into cakes, jams and other homemade treats.

Natural and Sustainable Farming

We avoid synthetic chemicals and focus on working with nature, not against it. Our strawberries and other fruits are grown in a simple, natural way so their real flavour can shine.
Our bees, wildflowers and mixed planting help support biodiversity and healthy fruit trees, and we make small batches of homemade jam so we can use as much of our harvest as possible.

Vegetable Garden

Next to our fruit trees we also have a small vegetable garden, where we grow a variety of seasonal vegetables. From spring to autumn you will find different greens, herbs and classic kitchen vegetables in the beds, following the rhythm of the seasons. Whenever possible, we use these fresh vegetables in our own kitchen, especially for breakfast, so that many of the ingredients on your plate come straight from our land.
